Information for fursuit owners:
After Shipping:
-
Please let me know when you have received your fursuit!
-
If any fur is creased, you can easily heat treat it with a brush and a hair dryer. For how to do this, I recommend Mugiwara cosplay’s tutorial or Matrices tutorial. Both can be found on youtube by searching their names + “damaged Fur”
Washing:
- Tails/ Paws / sleeves/ bodysuits
-
To wash, remove stuffing ( if applicable) and turn inside out.
-
Items that cannot be turned inside out, like paws and tails should go inside a pillowcase in the wash to project from friction
-
Wash on the most delicate and coldest settings. DO NOT USE HEAT AS IT WILL DAMAGE THE FUR! You can use regular detergent as long as it does not have fabric softener or bleach.
-
If your item cannot fit in the washer, hand wash in a tub or similar container. Use laundry detergent (no fabric softener or bleach) and rinse multiple times to ensure there is no soap left.
-
AIR DRY ONLY!! Brush and lay out flat on a rack or chair. Do not hang as it will stretch out the fur. Flip over the item and brush it every once and a while to prevent the fur from wrinkling, about every 20 minutes. Use a fan to speed up the drying process.
- Heads/ feet paws:
-
These will need to be spot cleaned
-
Suds up a rag with cold water and a bit of detergent and gently scrub the item. For fursuit heads, avoid the eyelashes and eyes. Soap and water will not hurt them, but the rubbing might cause them to come loose or cause an abrasion on the mesh.
-
Repeat the above step with both a plain water towel or rag, and a dry towel.
-
Let the item air dry

- Bodysuits should be washed every 3-4 wears light wears/ tails, paws, sleeves after every big convention / heads only when needed.

- Most often items like a long tail and feet paws will need to be cleaned with carpet spot cleaner from dragging on the ground. This can be done whenever it is needed.
Storage-
-
Store in a dry place out of direct sunlight as it can cause the furs colors to fade over time. Keep covered if open to the air to protect the fur from dust gathering. Over time dust can leave a sticky residue and/or discolor the fur.
-
Halfsuits/bodysuits: hang without the padding installed/stuffed. With halfsuits, use a pants hanger that is clipped onto the fur fabric of the suit. Hanging by the elastic will cause it to stretch out.
-
Heads: I prefer to store my heads on a simple dowel and joanns foam head so the fur on the neck does not become creased from being folded. Otherwise the head can just be set on a shelf or likewise.
-
Paws: I store mine on a pants hanger along with my bodysuits
-
Tails: small tails can be hung up but large tails are best stored set on something.
-
Overall, as long as it works for you and does not damage the suit, any storage way is fine, these are just suggestions.

Disinfecting-
-
Always disinfect and brush all fursuit parts after every use to prevent them from developing a smell.
-
Head: cover the eyes with tissues or paper towels and spray both the inside and outside (outside is only necessary after larger events specifically with other people. Use your own judgment on whether the outside needs to be disinfected or not) with the disinfectant spray. The spray will get rid of anything that might be growing, kill germs and keep it from smelling.
-
Paws ( hand and feet) : always spray the inside of the paws. Outside is when you see fit.
-
Tails: only disinfect when you see fit.
-
Bodysuits: Always spray the insides and leave to dry. Bodysuits get really sweaty and it is so important to keep them clean. See washing instructions above.
